As we venture further into the 2020s, the UK housing market remains a hot topic of discussion. For tradespeople, construction company owners and anyone invested in large-scale home construction projects, knowing the key players and understanding the current market is crucial.

In this blog post, we’ll dive into the current state of the UK housing market, explore the biggest housebuilders of 2023, and provide a detailed forecast for 2024.

So, grab a cuppa and let’s get started.

The current state of the UK housing market

The UK housing market has shown its resilience over the past few years, navigating through the turbulence of Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, demand for new-build homes remains strong, and house prices have continued to soar. According to the Office for National Statistics, in October 2022, the average UK house price was £270,000, showing an increase of 1.3% from the previous year.

As the government pushes to increase housing development, the Construction Products Association forecast a growth in private housing starts to reach 157,000 units by 2024. This growth in demand for new homes is putting pressure on the housebuilding sector, pushing companies to expand their offering and ramp up production.

Innovation, sustainability, and design quality are the three key factors that help distinguish the best housebuilders in the industry.

Here is a list of the biggest housebuilders in the UK for 2023:

The combined efforts of the largest housebuilders in the market will play a pivotal role in meeting this demand, as they continue to innovate and push the boundaries of residential construction.

While some challenges may arise, such as potential fluctuations in interest rates or supply chain disruptions, the overall outlook for the UK housing market remains positive. With a strong focus on sustainability, design excellence, and customer satisfaction, the industry is well-equipped to weather any storms that may come its way.

As we look forward to the future, it’s clear that the UK housing market will continue to be a major contributor to economic growth and a critical provider of homes for individuals and families across the country. And with companies like Barratt Homes, Redrow, Vistry, and Thakeham leading the charge, there’s no doubt that the industry is in good hands.
